HISTORY



     Eshot General Directorate was established in 1943 as a business affiliated to Izmir Municipality. In 1945, the Company merged with the Tram and Electric business and in the same year the Gas business joined the organization.
     With Law No. 2705 published in the Official Gazette dated September 12, 1982 and Numbered 17809, electricity and electrical units and personnel were transferred to the Turkish Electricity Authority on 01.11.1982. With the establishment of IZSU General Directorate, the water-related units and personnel of the ESHOT General Directorate were transferred to IZSU General Directorate on 01.07.1987. Since the tecnology of the trolleybuses was too old,operating costs were incresaed.It completed its economic life and Trolleybus Manangement Unit was decommissioned in July 1992.
     Founded in 1876 by the British with the aim of ligthening Izmir under the name of Ottoman City Gas, the Gas Company was transferred to the Municipality in 1936, and the Municipality established a City Gas Directorate and commissioned the operation. Founded in 1945, it is connected to the General Directorate of Elective Tram Enterprises. After the lighting was provided by electricity, the gas lanterns were removed and fuel was produced for domestic use.
    The Gas factory was closed on 01.09.1994 due to its old technology, constant loss, environmental pollution and the fact that it had completed its economic life. ESHOT General Directorate continued its mission only as a rubber-wheeled public transport institution. Today, in parallel with the population growth of the city, ESHOT provides transportation services with 364 lines and nearly 1780 comfortable buses for the safety and comfort of our people every day.
