The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality ESHOT General Directorate allocated approximately 40 percent of the 2022 budget to the purchase of new vehicles, materials, equipment and the construction of new facilities. By the end of this year, 22 new midibuses will arrive. Next year, 100 electric buses and 33 more midibuses will be purchased.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality ESHOT General Directorate, which has added 435 new buses in its fleet in the last 2.5 years, has allocated about 40 percent of its budget for next year to new investments. Another 22 midibuses, more suitable for narrow and hilly neighborhoods, will be in service by the end of this year.
ESHOT will add 33 more vehicles in its fleet next year. In addition, 100 more electric buses will be added 2022 in line with the izmir Metropolitan Municipality's goal of reducing gas emissions by 40 percent by 2030. Thus, the total number of electric vehicles ESHOT fleet will reach 120. ESHOT will also require the construction of charging stations for electric vehicles in the specification of the tender
Metropolitan Mayor's Goal Will Be 120 Percent
With the arrival of these vehicles, the number of new buses that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality received during Mayor Tunç Soyer’s period will reach 606. Mayor Soyer's target of "500 new buses in five years" will be exceeded by 120 percent. ESHOT General Directorate currently provides public transportation services with a total of 1780 buses, including 90 midibuses, 1049 solo and 641 articulated buses.
Solar Energy Plant Investments Will Continue
There will be Growth in Solar Energy Plants. The General Directorate of ESHOT continues to invest in solar power plants while working towards the goal of increasing the number of electric buses in its fleet. Thanks to the Solar Energy Plant implemented in 2017 in a total roof area of 10,000 square meters, more than TL 4 million has been saved in Gediz Garage facilities.Thanks to 72 percent of the electricity generated, all 20 electric buses are charged. Remaining 34 percent is used in atelier needs.
By November 22, 1,919,183 liters of fuel were saved thanks to electric vehicles and solar power plants. 5,237,996 kilowatts/hour of electrical power was generated. The amount of carbon dioxide blocked amounted to 7,725 tons. Considering the number of trees required to filter all these toxic emissions "in one day" is about 200,000, the importance of Solar Power Plants will be much better understood.
In line with the izmir Metropolitan Municipality's goal of "Zero Carbon Emissions" in 2050; preparations for the Solar Power Plant projects to be implemented on the roofs of their garages in Gediz, Karsiyaka Ataşehir and Buca Adatepe are also underway. After these investments, 4,260,000 kilowatts/hour of electrical energy will be generated annually.Thus, 62 percent of the annual energy needed in the entire ESHOT will be provided from the sun. On the other hand, the energy needs of 65 sheltered bus stops throughout the city are provided by the sun. Efforts increase this number to 225 are underway
Failure Discussed Down Eightfold
The Periodic Maintenance Branch Office, which carries out routine maintenance of buses planned and regular, overhauls 5-6 vehicles from top to bottom every day. Thanks to preventive measures, failure rates have decreased greatly. The failure rate, which was previously more than 10 percent, fell to 1.6 percent. While 1100 buses have been periodically maintained in the last 13 months, the number is projected to reach iş 1800 by the end of the year. The newly installed "lubricant automation system" extends the engine life of vehicles.
Refurbishing Old Vehicles
Old vehicles of the ESHOT fleet are taken into service in ateliers. From base to flooring, electrical installations to air conditioners and paint, all components are being completely refurbished. New engines are built for the vehicles needed. So far, 350 buses have been refurbished like new.There will be no vehicles that haven't been refurbished within the specified plan.
Bicycles Are Also Being Transported
In line with the strategy of promoting cyclist transportation in the city, two bicycle transport apparatuses are fabricated in all new buses. A total of 500 buses can carry passengers on bicycles, equivalent to 28 percent of the fleet, as a result of the assembly work carried out on old buses in ESHOT on ateliers. Passengers who have folding bicycles and electric scooters can also board all buses with their vehicles except 06.00-09.00 and 16.00-20.00.
Bus fleet rejuvenated
When Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer took office, the average age of the fleet was 12.6 years. This figure decreased to 8 after newly owned buses and with drawing the old vehicles from the fleet. The average age of the 1,281 vehicles is 5.5, below European Standards.Next year, significant cost items such as depreciation, fuel, maintenance and repair, spare parts will decline significantly.
60 million TL advertising revenue for ESHOT
The General Directorate of ESHOT made a tender; for the purpose of advertising buses, stops and transit centers for five years. The winning company will pay ESHOT 60 million lira for the right of use of 4,998 bus stops and 900 buses for advertisements. The company will also install a total of 1820 audio and video digital information platforms and passenger information systems in the buses, stops and transfer centers. These systems will be transferred to the ESHOT General Directorate after five years.
Discount To Students
The student boarding fee of 1.80 TL was discounted in November 2019; it was reduced to 1.64 TL. Students also get free access in a 120-minute transfer system. Likewise, citizens and teachers at the age of 60 can use all public transport in 120 minutes at no transfer cost. The monthly savings provided to each student is about 106 TL.
Female Drivers On The Rise
By the instructions of the Mayor Tunç Soyer, the era of female drivers began. Currently, 110 female drivers are successfully employed. Next year, the goal is to increase this number to 140.
ESHOT Mobile App
ESHOT Mobile Application was launched with its renewed design and content. User-friendly apps can be downloaded for free on smartphones and tablets.Izmirim Card provides all the information and convenience needed in public transportation with many features from planning travel to loading card balance and ordering automatic payment from notification of route changes to stop alarm.
Buses on Google Maps
ESHOT General Directorate bus lines can be seen instantly in the Google Maps app. Line information, schedules, route-stop and instant traffic conditions are easily accessible via Google Maps. Google Maps; Metro, Tram, IZDENİZ and IZBAN service schedules can also be obtained via the application. Alternatives to public transportation can be obtained in Izmir. Thus, citizens and tourists can determine the routes that are most suitable for them on the routes they will take.
Free İnternet On Buses
Under the name of WizmirNET,free and wireless internet service has been offered to passengers since 2015. The pilot application has started in a total of 60 vehicles on 10 university-connected lines. Citizens who use these buses can use the internet service by connecting to WizmirNET by their mobile by and following the desired steps. Once connected, mobile phones automatically connect to the internet on other rides in the same vehicle. 177,788 passengers in 2020; As of October 31st, 169,000 passengers benefited from the application this year.
30 New Bus Lines Are Put Into Service
With the development of the city, 30 new bus lines were put into service in the areas needed and in line with the demands of university students.According to the necessities and demands of university students,30 new bus lines were put into service.
Hygiene On Buses
The project, armed to prevent the spread of viruses and bacteria in public transportation vehicles, was a practice implementation implemented as a trial. Hepa filters and UV-ray air purification devices used in surgery rooms were installed on three buses in Izmir ,this is the first practice implemented in the world.
