Eshot Receives Environment Prize With Electric Buses

The "Integrated Project for Electric Bus and Solar Power Plant", which ESHOT's General Directorate has been implemented, was awarded the "Environment and Sustainable Development Award" by the International Public Transport Association (UITP) for being the first in the world.
This "honorary award" of the Izmir transportation was presented in the "World Public Transport Summit and Fair" in Canada.
ESHOT, the transportation company of the Metropolitan Municipality, put into service 20 full electric buses last April. The electric energy consumed by the buses will also be supplied by the solar energy plant which is being installed in Buca Gediz Workshop. And this has not escaped the attention of the International Public Transport Union (UITP).
At the ceremony held at the "World Public Transport Summit and Fair" in Canada, ESHOT Executive Director Fazil Meter received this important award from Canada's Ambassador to Turkey Selçuk Ünal and UITP Secretary General Alain Flaush.
It saves 80 percent
İzmir's electric buses, which are produced according to the geographical and climatic conditions of the city, can travel 250 km. a day and they do not use any energy sources other than electricity. Electric buses that reduce carbon emissions to zero, saving more than 80 percent compared to diesel buses, offering a quiet and comfortable journey.
The feasibility report prepared by ESHOT General Directorate for the purchase of 400 electric buses was approved by the Ministry of Development and taken into investment budget.
